Laparoscopy cholecystectomy – a couple of weeks ago, I could not even pronounce those two words. But now, I could just simply roll them out of my tongue with no problem at all.
Last February 17th while I was away on a conference in Cebu, wifey had a 10-hour episode of gas pain, bloated feeling and a consistent pain that radiated through her back. Both of us simply thought that it was another case of gas triggered by something we had not figured out yet.
Then last Feb 21 – as the combined congregational worship was about to start – she underwent this traumatic pain again. She almost lost consciousness because of the pain while I was giving out instructions for the worship team. We rushed out of the venue and went to the office hoping the pain to subside. The pain lasted for 5 hours and we ended up at the Emergency Room of Asian Hospital in Alabang.
The following day, we went back to Asian Hospital to see an Internist. Dr. Novenario requested for an ultrasound of the pancreas, gall bladder and kidney. The ultrasound revealed gallstones – one of which was about 1cm in diameter. It was a cause of concern because it could block the bile duct and thus cause that tremendous pain. The following day, Dr. Novenario recommended laparoscopy to have the gallbladder removed.
Last March 17 – we sent to Southern Luzon Hospital and Medical Center and scheduled an appointment with Dr. Ivor Tantuco. He confirmed the need for surgery after seeing the ultrasound reports we brought with us.
We scheduled the surgery for the following week.
Last March 23rd, we checked Wifey for her laparascopy on the 24th. While it was a scary experience because it was my wife’s first surgery – we were very pleased by the professionalism shown by all the medical staff. The nurses were all very accommodating and really put my wife at ease every time they had to take her vital signs, extract blood, prick her with the IV drip needed for her surgery.
I took my wifey along with the nurse down to the Operating Room. More than two hours later, I went down again to the recovery room and there was wifey, still unable to open her eyes. I asked how she was doing and she raised her right hand and did a thumbs-up sign.
It was a little past 5PM when she was wheeled back into her hospital room.
Thank you Southern Luzon Hospital and Medical Center.
Thank you for your very polite, friendly and respectful doctors, nurses and staff.
What a blessing to have this kind of hospital within our area.
Good am! I just want to ask if to whom could I address my application letter? Thank you!
Hello Kristin
We are not associated with the hospital. My wife was simply a patient. Kindly proceed to the hospital and submit your application there. Visit their website and get the information you need.

Hello Jackie,
We remember the stay with fondness and how we were very well taken care of. I pray that all the patients would experience what we had. Unfortunately, a friend who had been rushed there due to cardiac arrest had to be transferred to the Makati Medical Center because the cardiologist of Southern Hospital could not come and he was just put on medication through the night while the nurse just talked to the cardiologist on the phone. We were thankful that he was transferred to Makati Med and had his operation right away. The surgeon who operated on him said “it was a little late” because his heart was already damaged.. The surgeon said he could have died from that heart attack.
But our experience was so much better. I just pray that it will be the same for so many more. Keep up the good work.
Wifey is doing so much better now. Thanks!

you know sir, sometimes even if we wanted all the doctors to be there right away–we just cant take hold of their time…it’s also frustrating for us nurses because we are the FRONTLINERS in terms of communication with the patients…I do understand your friend’s situation…I hope he is doing fine…coz what happend to him is critical…should have done smthing MORe i guess..well I guess we should ust pray and hope for the best for SLHMC and outher hospitals that they may help more patients needing care..;-) Godbless!
