It grabbed my attention. If it doesn’t grab yours, I would not know what will. An 8-year old girl was finally able to divorce her husband (50years old!) after her father paid the old man money (news reports indicate about $13K!) in Saudi Arabia.
Drove me to my knees.
The Lord really has to redeem everything in this world – particularly when some cultures look at this and say “well, what’s wrong with this? They should be allowed to do that…”
An 8-year old girl is not supposed to be married-off to anyone. I just could not begin to fathom the mindset of a culture that would just nonchalantly send their little girls to this kind of a life.
In most civilized parts of the world, this would be unthinkable.
Lord God, I do not know how many young girls are in this form of “slavery” right now. But would you please do something – please release them from the shackles (and it could be literal, for all we know!) caused by this mindset that still exists to this day.
Lord Jesus, you have modeled for us how you have lovingly placed significant values on women and children. There are parts of this world right now, where they are simply considered properties to be disposed of and used at will.
Lord God – please come back to us soon. The whole world is literally groaning in agony. We cannot redeem ourselves from our fallen-ness. Redeem our cultures. Redeem how we look at our children and how we values the women in our lives.
Release the children who have been married off.
Let the children in the Middle east become what they are supposed to be – precious gifts in the eyes of the parents and their communities.
Not some objects to be used for the prurient interests of the “privilege” few with the most grossly distorted view.
