The conflict that burned the house down…

It was a peaceful evening last night. The gentle rain showers just ended and I was settled into working on transferring my files to an external storage.

Someone rang the doorbell and it turned out to be Jina (one of our neighbors) and she informed me about a house burning at that very moment.

I went upstairs and the fire was very visible from our room upstairs.

We tried to approach the house but we were stopped by a couple of men in uniform ( military uniform – and I was thinking, where did these military guys come from?). Apparently, someone had set the house on fire and there were some LPG tanks that could explode.  About 50 people had gathered and I wished we could have done something or ANYTHING.  Later on it got around that the brother of the owner had set the house on fire.  Definite case of arson arising from an unsettled family conflict. The owners are apparently staying abroad at this time.

On our way to the office, we passed through the house and this is how it looks now.

The aftermath

What an eerie reminder of how costly family conflicts can be when they remain unsettled.  This is just a physical representation of what had really got burned inside their hearts toward each other.
