VOTE FOR EARTH – didn’t happen in Laguna Bel Air

Posted on 29 March 2009

bildeWe rushed home from Festival Mall in Alabang. It was a little past the designated time to switch off the lights.  One light was usually left on for our in-house dog, Toepy.  We unloaded our groceries and we put away our items using 4 candles.  We voted for earth as my wife cleaned the chicken and I helped her put away stuff in the dark.

Outside, all the street lamps were on and my nephew went to the basketball court because there was a game going on!  I know of only one neighbor who turned-off their lights – the rest were just so incognizant of what the hour was supposed to look like – DARK.

My wife and I laughed at the idea of how people who were passing by would mistakenly assume that we were not able to pay our electric bill this month…

Laguna Bel Air did not vote for planet earth.  Well, majority of the establishments like PETRON, METROBANK and 7-11 did not join EARTH HOUR.  McDonalds turned off its BIG MCDO neon sign – but their lights were blazing in and out.

Well we could do better.  The campaign for Earth Hour was mostly aired on cable channels ( CNN mostly). I did not hear about this being endorsed by any local politicians.  I was just really glad to see tarpauline streamers along EDSA advocating the EARTH HOUR – but these advertising campaigns hardly made a dent in cracking the “indifference” of the Filipinos, let alone, the basketball enthusiasts in LAGUNA BEL AIR.

Sorry, we tried.  Laguna  Bel Air and its neighboring businesses did not vote for PLANET EARTH.

Indifference is a terrible thing.

Kami lang din ang nag lights off sa subdivision namin…sigh. My kids were excited to use the flashlight while hubby and I used the time sipping coffee and chatting outside the house.Sana next year more mas maraming tao ang mag “pakabana”..

Great seeing you in Crossway last sunday.
Did your hubby leave already? I can’t seem to remember if you told me when his flight was.
I looked at your blog and what I found was a savory description of a chicken soup.
Ginutom tuloy ako. Maybe we should cook that tinola instead of the spaghetti for today.

Have fun and I hope you get rested (if at all possible?) during this Lent Season.

      God bless.
